My Therapeutic Approach
As a therapist, I believe deeply in the healing power of connection and relationship. While I draw from numerous therapeutic modalities that honor mind, body, and spirit, my core philosophy takes a client-centered approach that emphasizes empathy, compassion, curiosity, and unconditional positive regard. My top priority is establishing trust, security, and safety within our therapeutic relationship, as the quality and strength of that relationship has proven to be the single greatest predictor of achieving positive outcomes.
Within the container of this relationship, I will offer support, guidance, and an unwavering sense of hope as we explore your unique goals and desires, the pain and behaviors that may be holding you back, and how to create satisfying relationships, both with others and yourself. Above all, our sessions are time to focus on you, and as such, I strongly encourage clients to hold a sense of ownership and empowerment in their work.
Getting Started:
We will start with a free 25-minute initial consultation to discuss your motivation and desires for therapy and how I may be able to support you.
From there, we will set up our first session, and I will send you my intake paperwork to complete prior. All paperwork can be completed electronically. During the first session, we will review policies such as confidentiality, boundaries, cancellation, etc.
Our first few sessions will focus on getting to know each other and diving into the topic you are wanting to work on. During those sessions, we will process the experience of getting started and discuss the trajectory of therapy as aligns with your needs and desire for support.
As we get to know each other and move beyond the initial sessions, you will be able to take a directive and active role in the topics we discuss, the frequency in which we meet, and the direction of our work. Homework may be given if we both agree it will be helpful to supplement your work.
When is therapy over?
It depends! People seek therapy for different reasons and needs. Some clients prefer fewer sessions to focus on one particular topic, while others utilize therapy long-term for ongoing support. I will check-in and make recommendations along the way, but at the end of the day, you are the expert on your unique needs and desires, and we will decide together what length of therapy feels most helpful.
